Delhi residents may have to wait a little longer for buses from Mohalla as the transport department is still finalising the routes and has not yet procured the vehicles.

According to officials, the Delhi Transport Corporation and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) will soon start trial operations on two new routes – from Indian Airline Colony/Priya Cinema to Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station and from Lok Kalyan Marg to Vasant Vihar.

The trial on two routes – Pradhan Enclave Pushta to Majlis Park metro station and Akshardham metro station to Mayur Vihar Paper Market Phase III – is already underway.

“DTC and DIMTS will start a trial operation on two new routes to gain further insights. There are 16 depots built for parking and servicing these buses. The work to install charging infrastructure is underway at these depots and will take some time.

“There have been delays in the arrival of the corporation’s buses. The department had planned to launch the buses by the end of August, but the launch may be delayed until mid-September,” an official said.

The Delhi government is working to complete the routes with the help of AI.

“There will be a meeting with IIT-Delhi next week to discuss the routes. This will be followed by another meeting with Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot to finalise the routes,” another official said.

The green-painted buses are equipped with six battery packs with a total capacity of 196 kW and enable a range of over 200 km with a 45-minute intermediate charge.

The nine-meter-long buses have 23 seats and 13 standing places. Six seats are marked pink and are therefore reserved for female passengers, a statement said.

Under the scheme, 2,080 buses will be deployed and the government plans to introduce them by 2025. Of these, 1,040 will be operated by the DTC and the rest by DIMTS. Currently, the government operates 100 buses acquired from the DMRC.
