Pewamo-Westfahlen wants to extend title series
Pewamo-Westfalia has made it a habit to finish at the top of the CMAC football standings over the past decade.
The Pirates have won the league title in nine consecutive seasons, winning the title outright last fall after sharing the championship with Fowler and Laingsburg in 2022.
Fowler and Laingsburg both made the playoffs last season and will look to play a role in the league race this fall. Saranac, Bath and Perry also made the 2023 state playoffs and will look to make the cut.
Dansville is under new leadership and looking to improve, while Potterville hopes to make a statement by returning to the full varsity schedule after only a few games in 2023.
Here’s a look at the CMAC team by team.

Bath, which has all five starters back on the offensive line and has more skill and size on the perimeter on both sides of the ball, has set its sights on returning to the playoffs and competing for the district championship. Lorenz said an improved passing game is one of the keys to the Bees’ success.

▶ Outlook: Fowler is 18-4 over the past two seasons and will look to continue its success and extend its playoff streak to six this fall. The Eagles will count on many new faces to play a role in that after losing a lot of talent to graduation. Jacob Halfmann, Alex Halfmann and Kohagen return as two-way starters, adding more experience to Fowler, which returns four starters on offense and defense. Spicer believes the rapid growth on the offensive line and in new additions will determine the Eagles’ success this fall.

▶ Outlook: The Wolfpack’s only returning starters are Kiffer, Montgomery and Mills in the trenches. Laingsburg will lean on that trio since Rowley is a new starter at quarterback. That trio is among the five returning starters on offense and defense. While Perry is outnumbered, Bentley said his players have shown great energy and are coachable. The Ramblers are expected to make progress each week as they enter a new era in the CMAC.

PW has won eight of the last nine CMAC titles and has six starters on offense and three on defense back from last year’s championship team. Brayton Thelen is the only returning starter on either side and is drawing interest from colleges. The Pirates will rely on their seniors on defense to step into the starting positions and play at a high level, and they will count on Ty Thelen to take over at quarterback. Miller expects an experienced offensive line to be a major strength.
