EastEnders showed disturbing scenes in Wednesday’s episode (April 10) as Gloria Knight collapsed, sending George into a panic. George called for help when his mother suffered a heart attack as the stress of Eddie’s murder trial was too much for her to handle.

Former professional boxer George, played by actor Colin Salmon in the BBC soap, had turned his back on his adoptive mother Gloria (Elizabeth Counsell) after learning how she and her husband Eddie had kept the truth about his biological parents from him. Eddie (Christopher Fairbank) is now on trial for the historic racist murder of George’s biological father, Henry Kofi Asare.

Earlier this week, George was surprised to receive information from prosecutors that Gloria had leaked information about her husband, Eddie. She later visited her son George and urged him to testify at the trial and seek justice for Henry.

But George’s hopes that Gloria has made the right choice are soon dashed when he overhears a secret phone call between his parents and it becomes clear that Gloria cannot turn her back on Eddie. George is furious and snaps at Gloria, telling her that he wants nothing more to do with her.

His ex-wife Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) tries to smooth things over between mother and son after having a private conversation with Gloria. She insists that George should turn to Gloria, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, the manipulative Eddie has arranged a meeting with George at the Boxing Den and makes one last attempt to stop George from testifying against him. George loses his composure and reveals that it was Gloria who persuaded him to testify.

The news prompts Eddie to make a chilling threat as the dispute disrupts George’s plans to give evidence in court. But during Wednesday’s visit to the Square, George is shocked when Cindy and Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) put aside their differences and join forces to support him.

At Cindy and Elaine’s urging, George decides to attend the trial after all. But the proceedings take a dramatic turn when Eddie’s defense cross-examines George and Gloria screams loudly in the middle of the courtroom, much to Eddie’s dismay.

However, Gloria is overwhelmed by stress and emotions and it all becomes too much. When the trial ends, she tries to hastily leave the courtroom and suffers a heart attack.

George called Anna to an ambulance as she desperately cried out for help. But will Gloria survive the heart attack? EastEnders fans will have to tune in tomorrow as the story continues.
