Girls break down the cost of Bama Rush outfits – and one costs $11,000!

The girls from the University of Alabama deliver their best with their Rush Week outfits!

On Bama Rush TikTok, prospective new members (PNMs) and sorority members showcase their looks for each round of the sorority recruitment process, which runs from August 12 to 20. The different phases of the Rush that new members must prepare outfits for include Convocation, Philanthropy, Sisterhood, Preference and Bid Day.

Many of these outfits come at a price, however. On Instagram, user @destinee.moreh breaks down the cost of some PNM outfits. In a video, she calculates the total cost of a PNM outfit at $11,000, which includes a Zara shirt, a Dior ring for $390, a Cartier Love Ring for $1,940, and another Cartier ring for $1,320. She also paired the look with earrings from Claire’s and shoes from Shein.

“When she said Claire’s I thought ohh that’s going to be a reasonable amount 🥴,” one person commented on the post. “I would never leave the house wearing an outfit that expensive; someone will rob me lol,” someone else replied.

“Honestly, she has something in mind: buy quality clothes, but don’t skimp on jewelry,” read another comment.

In another video, she analyzes an outfit that includes a Lululemon set, $400 Jimmy Choo sneakers from “last year,” a $580 Dior necklace, a Louis Vuitton bracelet and a David Yurman bracelet (both $395), a $178 Tory Burch bracelet, and a $75 tote bag. She estimates the total cost of the outfit at $2,332.

“Her closet is probably worth more than my entire family’s income,” one commenter said. “Suddenly I don’t feel so guilty about spending $20 on a dress,” another person wrote.

“I wonder if she has a safe for all her jewelry. Assuming she has a lot more than what she wears, does she keep it all in a drawer?” writes another person.

Kylan Darnell, who gained viral fame a few years ago for her Alabama recruiting process, also shares her recruiting outfits from a sorority perspective.

Breaking down her Sisterhood Round outfit on Instagram, @destinee.moreh notes that her outfit included $450 David Yurman hoop earrings, a $475 David Yurman necklace, and a $1,450 David Yurman bracelet. She also wore another $895 David Yurman bracelet, a YSL bracelet, and another Dior bracelet.

Her blue floral dress was by Bronx and Banco, available at Revolve for $695, and her Christian Louboutin Kate pumps are $795.

“Her meltdown is one of my favorites. I love her dress!” reads one comment. “So was the whole point of Bama Rush to show what they got so they could get into their sororities or whatever?” reads another.

Someone else says: “It’s shocking how expensive all this is.”

According to the Alabama Panhellenic Association’s (APA) 132-page “Greek Chic Recruitment Guide 2024,” PNMs must follow a specific dress code for each round.

For the graduation ceremony and open house, which take place on the first day of Rush Week, the dress code is “casual.” During the Philanthropy Round, which spans the following two days, PNMs will receive two Philanthropy T-shirts to pair with shorts or skorts and comfortable shoes.

In the Sisterhood Round, the second to last round, the APA recommends wearing a nicer dress with wedges or heels. The final round, Preference Day, is the most formal and girls are encouraged to wear a nice dress and heels, but nothing too tight.

For the final day, the APA advises PMNs to wear comfortable clothing. “You will be sitting in Bryant Denny Stadium and running home in the heat, so wear something comfortable and cool!” says the APA.
