Collin Morikawa has a special bag for the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Here’s why it’s significant | Golf Equipment: Clubs, Balls, Bags
During the FedEx Cup Playoffs, you simply cannot ignore the carrier’s advertising signs. That’s fair considering how much the company has invested in the final stages of the season: $100 million is to be paid out, including $25 million for the eventual FedEx Cup champion. This year, however, it’s gone a step further and includes two-time major winner Collin Morikawa and his TaylorMade staff bag.
As part of a collaboration between TaylorMade, FedEx, the PGA Tour and Ceeze Creative Studios, Morikawa’s clubs for the three events will be stored in a bag made from FedEx packaging and soon-to-be-recycled recycled materials. Several parts of the bag are also made from TaylorMade golf gloves.
When asked about the bag, Morikawa had a lot to say.
“Yeah, a really special bag,” Morikawa said. “Really cool. I think FedEx did a little collaboration with TaylorMade, one of my sponsors, and designed this bag specifically for the playoffs. It’s obviously very meaningful, not just how it’s made — on the side are recycled gloves, recycled materials. … But I think what it represents is really just a summary of the whole season. I think what’s special about this bag and the next three weeks that I’ll be using it is that FedEx is going to donate $1,000 per birdie that I make for the playoffs, and that’s really, really special. They’re going to donate to St. Jude, obviously to the St. Jude Championship this week. There’s just a lot of special connections.” Morikawa’s wife, Katherine, is also all for St. Jude, because she’s running the upcoming New York City Marathon, and St. Jude is also her charitable recipient.
Even though no one is cheering on the players in the press box, we wish the Morikawa family many birdies and miles run.
