Packers add five new players to the injured list as they enter the final week of preseason play

According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, the Green Bay Packers added five new players to their injured list on Tuesday.

The newly injured players and their complaints include:

RB AJ Dillon: Sting
OL Andre Dillard: Shoulder
TE Tyler Davis: Shoulder
EN Preston Smith: Illness
DE Spencer Waege: Concussion

Dillon’s injury may explain why he did not play in Sunday’s preseason game against the Denver Broncos, although it is unclear when he sustained the injury. Smith, who had a strong performance in joint practice with the Broncos on Friday, was one of 31 players who did not play on Sunday, including most of the team’s starters.

Dillard, Davis and Waege played a combined 66 snaps in Denver, but their injuries were not reported during the game. All three players are competing for spots on the 53-man roster. Dillard started at left tackle and did not allow a sack or pressure in seven pass-blocking snaps. Davis was penalized for holding but did not get a target or tackle on special teams, while Waege recorded two tackles in 32 defensive snaps.

Rookie linebacker Ralen Goforth was also out on Tuesday due to the concussion he sustained in the game against the Broncos.

On a positive note, head coach Matt LaFleur provided an update on rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, announcing that he will participate in individual drills on Tuesday.

Saturday is the season finale against the Baltimore Ravens, and the reserve players have one last chance to prove why they belong on this year’s team.
