Tyrese Gibson says he and his mother, Priscilla Murray Gibson, hatched a plan to make the government believe their family needed extra money.

Gibson, who was only 8 at the time, said his mother told him to “delay” his answers, which confused him. When he asked for further clarification, she explained, “‘I could ask you a question: ‘What color is the wall?’ I said, ‘White.’ She said, ‘Don’t do that.’ She said, ‘When they ask you what color the wall is, pretend you’re thinking about it.'”

Gibson clarified that his mother did not fully “explain” the situation or use derogatory language.

“She basically just said, ‘We need to go up there and tell them that you all have some problems.'”
