‘Fast & Furious’ star says his mother forced him to pretend he had special needs to get a government check
Tyrese Gibson reveals shocking details from his childhood and admits that his mother used him as a pawn to support the family.
“My damn stomach was touching my back. Every form of welfare, WIC vouchers, checks from the government,” Gibson said of his upbringing on the podcast “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” with rapper King Gillie and influencer Wallo267.
The actor grew up in a Los Angeles neighborhood in a single-parent household. He had a brother and two sisters.

“My mom sent us to the Social Security building and played tricks on us,” revealed the “Transformers” star. “Clearly – government crap.”

“She said, ‘This is what we’re going to do,'” Gibson said of the plan that was put together. “‘We need to go to this county building and if you do this, we’ll get $760 a month. And your mom can use that. You know, I’m here, we’re in the neighborhood, I’m working and trying to make ends meet,'” she said of life with two sons and two daughters.
Gibson, who was only 8 at the time, said his mother told him to “delay” his answers, which confused him. When he asked for further clarification, she explained, “‘I could ask you a question: ‘What color is the wall?’ I said, ‘White.’ She said, ‘Don’t do that.’ She said, ‘When they ask you what color the wall is, pretend you’re thinking about it.'”
Gibson clarified that his mother did not fully “explain” the situation or use derogatory language.
“She basically just said, ‘We need to go up there and tell them that you all have some problems.'”

The “How You Gonna Act Like That” singer said his mother explained to him that he would probably have to take part in some sort of assessment – and he did. He recalled a woman coming into the room, “talking to me like I was slow” and giving him a puzzle. Gibson said he complied with his mother’s request to “delay” his answers.
“I don’t remember any of my sisters doing that. (My brother and I) definitely did it.”

The “Fast & Furious” actor said he is extremely grateful for what he has now.
“My life – my whole career – felt like a rental car. Like I was going to have to give it back at some point,” he admitted. “I’ve been (famous) for almost 30 years… God has laid his hands on me… Every day feels like Christmas.”
Representatives for Gibson did not respond to Fox News Digital’s immediate request for comment.
