BDS responds to photo of employee peering over girls’ toilet cubicles

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Bay District Schools issued a statement in response to a video showing JR Arnold High School assistant administrator Anji Dunlap peeking over a stall in the girls’ restroom.

The district says the administrator’s actions were part of an attempt to catch a student vaping. The press release states that human resources and school administration are currently investigating the incident.

“We will continue to address vaping and other inappropriate behavior while upholding our district’s values ​​and standards,” the press release said. “Our commitment to our students and their families remains unwavering, and we will take all necessary steps to ensure that such situations do not recur.”

Superintendent Mark McQueen does not approve of her decision to peek over a locked toilet stall, the statement said.

“Bay District Schools (BDS) is aware of a photograph circulating that shows JR Arnold High School Assistant Principal Anji Dunlap looking over a shower stall in the girls’ restroom. We know this image has caused concern and dismay among students, parents and community members.

The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. Over the past few weeks, JR Arnold High School has implemented several strategies to combat and curb vaping in school restrooms. Our goal has always been to provide a safe and healthy environment for all students. Ms. Dunlap’s actions were part of an attempt to catch a student vaping. However, we want to make it clear that Superintendent Mark McQueen does not condone her decision to peek over a locked restroom stall. “This action violates our processes, our procedures and the trust our stakeholders have placed in us,” he said. “We will take remedial action upon completion of the investigation.”

We apologize to anyone who witnessed this behavior and to our community at large. We understand the concern this incident has caused and want to assure you that this situation is being taken very seriously. Both Human Resources and school administration are currently investigating the incident to ensure appropriate action is taken.

While we are committed to preventing vaping and ensuring the safety of our students, we must also respect their privacy and dignity. We deeply regret any inconvenience or embarrassment this incident may have caused. Going forward, we will continue to address vaping and other inappropriate behavior in a manner that upholds our district’s values ​​and standards.
