An area inspired by the ancient Etruscans

Enotria The Last Song Falesian Architecture

Latest Enotria: The Last Song Trailer reveals a new region called Falesia Magna. According to the developers, this particular area was heavily inspired by the Etruscan civilization, which is reflected in the artistic design of the entire ancient and architecturally impressive zone. In the game world, Falesia Magna resembles the Roman Empire, and the designers have done an excellent job of mixing ancient Etruscan art and architecture with Roman influences, creating a fantastical vision where players make their way through expansive areas filled with massive stone columns, ornate statues, and rushing waterways.

Falesia Magna even has its own impressive colosseum, complete with a decorated battle arena. Here players will face one of the most imposing bosses we have seen in Enotria: The Last Songcalled Giangurgolo. The creature is one of the most visually impressive and well-designed bosses yet seen in Jyamma Games’ carefully crafted title.

A boss with great inspiration

Enotria The last song Giangurgolo

Giangurgolo is not only a feast for the eyes, the creature itself is a labor of love that shows how much research and planning the team at Jyamma Games put into building the world of Enotria: The Last Song. This gigantic and voracious looking creature fits perfectly with the Roman-esque aesthetic of the Etruscan-themed area of Falesia Magna. Much like the fabled lions of the Roman Colosseum, the Giangurgolo faces the mask of change as a creature of pure tenacity, instinct and strength, promising to end the player character’s bloodline and caring not why they are in their realm.

The Giangurgolo is a blend of several historical elements, starting with its large and unique visage, said to be inspired by the mask of Comedy, while also being influenced by the Chimera, a mythological beast of fearsome strength that combines the elements of a lion, goat and snake. The Chimera of Arezzo, one of the greatest examples of Etruscan art, served as the focal point for the team to put the Giangurgolo together. The Chimera of Arezzo is a beautifully crafted bronze statue, said to have been created as early as 399 BC, and is currently housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Florence.

Even the beast’s name is inspired and a fusion of words. The “gian” aspect is said to come from Zanni, a prominent figure in the Commedia dell’arte theater. “Gurgolo” means “wide mouth with a voracious appetite,” and paints a vivid picture of what players can expect when dealing with the Giangurgolo.

In total, Enotria: The Last Song is shaping up to be one of the most immersive souslike games ever made, with a developer looking to bring many facets of Italian folklore to life. The group at Jyamma Games have clearly put in a tremendous amount of work to ensure that their upcoming release is not only fun, but also a labor of love, heavily inspired by the art and design of Italian history as well as theater.

Enotria: The Last Song will be released on September 19, 2024 for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
