YANKEES SIGN ANOTHER LEFT HAND PLAYER

YANKEES SIGN ANOTHER LEFT HAND PLAYER

That’s what we do all year long. We’re constantly strengthening our biggest problem this year, the bullpen. And so the Yankees have added another pitcher, and yes, it’s another left-hander. Tim Mayza. With Enyel De Los Santos being released, I guess that just makes sense.

SB Nation writes:

“Mayza, 32, has been a reliable middle reliever/setup man for the Blue Jays since 2017. Tim has consistently had FIPs under 3.00 from 2021-2023 and just last year had the best season of his career worth a win and a half, posting a 1.52 ERA and a 2.60 FIP in 53.1 innings…. Matt Blake seems to have his hands full with this one:

If you want to be optimistic, Mayza was very good not too long ago (yes, even in the season he gave up No. 61 to Aaron Judge). The Blue Jays really had no choice but to call him up in June, and you can see that his return to form is all about getting some speed back on his fastballs.”

And for me, it goes back to that lightning in a bottle mentality that Cashman has. Think about it, all our money is in Juan Soto, so all we can really do is get some spare parts and hope it works out.
Remember when Clay Holmes came to the Yankees? I wrote in June 2021 when they signed him, THE YANKEES FUCKED UP WITH THE CLAY HOLMES TRADE. He wasn’t impressive back then. Of course he had his moments of glory, but you ALWAYS tear this guy down when he screws up, which is often. And so you see, I wasn’t entirely wrong. This was a lightning-in-a-bottle move by Cashman, and it halfway worked.

The question is: How many more of these will we experience in our lifetime under the Cashman regime?

Welcome, Tim Mayza. Hope everything works out.
