Women’s Golf Majors 2024: What has happened so far and when will the AIG Women’s Open be on Sky? | Golf News
What’s happening with the women’s majors in 2024? We take a closer look at the golf calendar and what you may have missed during the season so far…
There are five majors in women’s golf, but only four in men’s golf. One takes place every month from April to August.
Three of them take place in the USA, one in Great Britain. Since 2013, the Evian Championship in France has been part of the major calendar.
The main season began in April with the Chevron Championship in Carlton Woods in Texas, an event Nelly Korda to claim her second major title and her fifth consecutive victory on the LPGA Tour.
A record-breaking total prize money of 12 million dollars (9.3 million pounds) was available at the US Women’s Open from 30 May to 2 June, where Yuka Saso took a three-stroke lead and thus his second major title in three years.
Later that month, there was a new, first-time Major Champion in KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, where South Korea’s Amy Yang scored a three-stroke victory at Sahalee Country Club.
The Evian Championship (11-14 July) was postponed from its previous September date in 2019 and Frenchwoman Celine Boutier returned as defending champion, only for Ayaka Furue to secure her first major title with a win over Stephanie Kyriacou in dramatic fashion.
The AIG Women’s Open rounds off a packed Major calendar from August 22-25, with Lilia Vu the defending champion and Charley Hull among the British hopefuls awaiting their elusive major breakthrough.
The final of this year’s season will take place on the legendary Old Course in St. Andrews. The tournament also serves as the last qualifying tournament for the next Solheim Cup team of Team Europe and Team USA.
Sky Sports will offer extended live coverage of the final of the Women’s Major, with seven hours of live action each day and a special preview show looking ahead to the event. Coverage begins at 12 noon from all four tournament rounds on Sky Sports Golf.
The Solheim Cup will be played at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia from September 13 to 15. Team Europe will look to continue its winning streak after a dramatic 14-14 draw in Spain last year.
Who will win the final women’s major of the year? Watch the AIG Women’s Open live on Sky Sports Golf from August 22-25.
