Felix Auger-Aliassime is upset after a wild match point ending against Jack Draper in Cincinnati – “He hit the ball on the ground!”

British tennis player Jack Draper was involved in a highly controversial end to his round of 16 match against Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Cincinnati Open.

As he approached the net on match point, Draper played an odd-looking volley that landed just over the net. Referee Greg Allensworth awarded the point and the match to the Englishman.

However, Auger-Aliassime was convinced that the shot ricocheted on Draper’s side of the pitch.

A long debate ensued and Draper claimed he was unsure whether the ball had bounced on his side of the pitch.

“If there was a replay, I would repeat it, but I don’t know… I’ve been watching you,” the Briton told Auger-Aliassime.

Auger-Aliassime replied: “Jack, you know that. It doesn’t matter where you looked. You played enough to know where the ball went when you hit it.”

The Canadian then took out his frustration on the referee.

“The worst game I have ever played” – Alcaraz on his great racket and the loss against Monfils

“What you just did is horrible,” he said. “Didn’t you see the ball hit the ground? He hit it with the punch!”

“We’re going to leave here, it’s going to be everywhere and it’s going to look ridiculous.

“I ask you again: If you are 100 percent sure that you are not leaving here and that you do not have the slightest doubt that that was a clean volley winner, then I will shake his hand immediately and the game is over.”

Allensworth replied, “I must say it as I see it, Felix. That is who I am and that is how I saw it.

“If I had any doubts, I would tell you. But we can go back and watch it again after the game. If I realize I’m wrong, I’ll admit it to you. But right now, I can’t go back and watch it again.”

Draper has now reached the quarterfinals, where he will face 15th seed Holger Rune.
