In Barranquilla, the day will open at 10:30 a.m. with the match between the Dominican Republic and Guam, a match that has never been played before in this tournament. Both teams started the tournament with a loss yesterday and now want to fight back and get their first win.
In Group B, Nicaragua and South Africa will open the day in Cartagena de Indias with the same start time. The Central American team won a very important victory against Venezuela yesterday and will be looking to remain undefeated in the tournament. South Africa, which opened yesterday in Barranquilla and moved to Cartagena for the rest of the opening round, will be looking to win its first game in the tournament.
Today’s schedule in Barranquilla continues. Japan and Italy face off at 3 p.m. at Edgar Renteria Stadium. Yesterday, Japan won a three-hour marathon against the Dominican Republic despite allowing eight walks. They will need to pitch better if they want to compete in the tournament. Italy lost to Colombia in Cartagena last night and moved to Barranquilla for the rest of the opening round. The last time these two teams met in the U-15 Baseball World Cup was on August 9, 2014, when Japan defeated Italy 4-0 on the final day of the placement round.
The second match of the day at the 11 de Noviembre Stadium in Cartagena will see Venezuela face Chinese Taipei. The two powerhouses had mixed performances yesterday: the Asians claimed an easy win over the Netherlands, while the South Americans lost to Nicaragua. The last match was played on August 1, 2016 in Iwaki, Japan, when Venezuela triumphed 10-8 over Chinese Taipei.
After yesterday’s debut in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia moves to Barranquilla to play its second Group A match against Puerto Rico. This will be their first match in this age group. Both teams had a triumphant debut in the tournament, but only one of them will remain undefeated. They did not meet in 2022, when Puerto Rico made its debut in the U-15 World Cup. First pitch at 7 p.m.
To close the day in Cartagena, the Netherlands and Mexico will face each other at 7 p.m. Both teams finished their games yesterday before seven innings, Mexico won in five, the Netherlands lost in six. This will be their first game in this competition, as these two teams have never competed in the same U-15 Baseball World Cup before.
