Hornets visit Paintsville for final preseason game – Salyersville Independent

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County will visit Paintsville for its final preseason game on Friday, August 16.

The Hornets and Tigers are not scheduled to meet in the 2024 regular high school football season.

Head coach John DeRossett leads the Hornets.

Head coach Trevor Hoskins leads the Tigers.

Earlier in their careers, DeRossett and Hoskins worked together as assistant coaches at the University of Pikeville.

“We’re looking forward to playing some more 11-on-11 on Friday in Paintsville,” said DeRossett. “My friend Trevor Hoskins is doing a great job with his team and we’re looking forward to the practice game.”

Both Magoffin County and Paintsville are making progress in the preseason.

Magoffin County is scheduled to play regular season games against Montgomery County, Lewis County, Leslie County, Russell, Martin County, Belfry, Powell County, Lawrence County, Estill County and Morgan County. The Hornets play in Class 3A, District 8.

Paintsville has scheduled regular season games against Floyd Central, Paris, Prestonsburg, Martin County, Leslie County, East Ridge, Hazard, Pikeville and Perry County Central. The Tigers compete in Class 1A, District 8.

The start time for the scrimmage between Magoffin County and Paintsville is 6:30 p.m.
