This low-cost clinic event aims to help every rabbit in Long Beach

Local rabbits and their owners can come to Bun Chia Burrow in Long Beach on August 31st to receive a health check and low-cost vaccination.

Bun Chia Burrow is a mobile pet boarding facility that provides rabbit and other small animal care in Long Beach, Los Angeles and Orange County. This year marks the second annual vaccination clinic the business offers to protect rabbits in Long Beach from Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV-2).

The RHDV-2 virus is fatal to rabbits and has been spreading in the United States since 2020, according to RHDV-2 vaccine manufacturer Medgen. Bun Chia Burrow has reported six rabbit deaths due to the virus in the last year.

The clinic is offering health screenings for $15 and an RHDV-2 vaccination for $35 on August 31, although Bun Chia Burrow says this only covers the cost of the vaccination. Rabbits can receive their first vaccination or booster shots against the virus.

This clinic is eligible for reimbursement or coverage through statewide pet insurance. Local residents are asked to register and schedule an appointment by emailing [email protected]. The first 10 rabbits to schedule an appointment will receive a free nail trim.

Bun Chia Burrow’s Rabbit Clinic will be open on August 31 from 10am to 4pm. The clinic address will be emailed to residents who make an appointment one week before the event.
