Quarterfinals in the Leagues Cup between Philadelphia Union and Mazatlan: How to watch Saturday’s game

Philadelphia Union will be looking to repeat its success in last year’s Leagues Cup, which ended with a win in the third-place match and a guaranteed spot in the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Mazatlán, the Union’s quarterfinal opponent in the Leagues Cup, is one of Liga MX’s two remaining hopes (the other being Club America) in a Leagues Cup tournament dominated by MLS teams.

Union entered this Leagues Cup as a strong team, having won their last two MLS matches against New England Revolution and Nashville SC by an aggregate score of 8-1. The only blemish on the tournament was a group stage penalty shootout loss to Cruz Azul. Union’s most impressive performance came on Tuesday night when they defeated reigning Supporters’ Shield winners FC Cincinnati 4-2.

Mazatlán stands in Philadelphia’s way of reaching the semifinals again. The shootout win over Cruz Azul ensured that at least one Liga MX club would reach the quarterfinals (Club America later also advanced after coming from behind to win against St. Louis City SC). Mazatlán is not exactly a Liga MX power, as the club is currently at the bottom of the table.

The winner of the quarter-final between Philadelphia Union and Mazatlán will face the winner of the match between Columbus Crew and New York City FC in the semi-finals.
