Previous Premier League signings in the summer 2024 transfer window

After a quiet first few weeks in the transfer window for Premier League clubs in the summer of 2024, business has really picked up speed ahead of the start of the new season.

With the exception of Liverpool, every single club in the Premier League has done some form of business ahead of the 2024/25 season, with some clubs (*Hm* Chelsea) is busier than others.

So, with the start of the new season this weekend, which Premier League clubs have signed the best players of the summer so far?

We at 90 minutes I took a look.

Estevão

Transfer: Palmeiras to Chelsea
Fee: £51 million

The only reason this transfer is so low on this list is because Estevao will not join Chelsea until next summer.

If that happens, you can expect him to become a real superstar in the Premier League.

Jake O'Brien

Transfer: Olympique Lyonnais to Everton
Fee: £16.4 million

Jake O’Brien’s move to Everton seems to be an almost perfect decision for everyone involved.

Having impressed at Lyon last season, O’Brien is expected to form quite an exciting duo alongside Jarrad Branthwaite at the heart of the Toffees defence, with the defender himself also set to learn a lot under Sean Dyche.

Dean Huijsen

Young talents / Dan Istitene/GettyImages

Transfer: Juventus to Bournemouth
Fee: £15.8 million

That was quite a coup.

Dean Huijsen has been one of Italy’s most exciting young defenders over the past few seasons, so it was a bit of a shock to see him land at Bournemouth this summer.

The loss of Serie A is certainly a gain for the Cherries.

It is safe to assume that Huijsen will stand out with his ball skills throughout the 2024/25 season.

Emile Smith Rowe

Transfer: Arsenal to Fulham
Fee: £27 million

Emile Smith Rowe is an incredibly talented football player who has simply been unlucky with injuries in recent years.

If he stays fit, he will be a great asset to Fulham.

Omari Hutchinson

Transfer: Chelsea to Ipswich Town
Fee: £22.5 million

There was one thing Ipswich Town absolutely had to do this summer: sign Omari Hutchinson permanently.

And that’s exactly what they did.

Nice.

Crysencio Summerville

Transfer: Leeds United to West Ham United
Fee: £25 million

It was always clear from Crysencio Summerville, last season’s best player in the Championship, that he would play in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season – regardless of whether Leeds were promoted or not.

In the end, the Whites failed at the final hurdle in their quest for promotion, so Summerville took his talent to West Ham to play in the top division again.

The winger is expected to thrive in East London this season.

Yankuba Minteh

Transfer: Newcastle United to Brighton & Hove Albion
Fee: £33 million

When Brighton sign a player, chances are he’s going to be pretty good.

If they sign a player for £33 million, chances are he’s going to be incredibly good.

Keep an eye on Yankuba Minteh this season. He could be incredibly good.

Transfer: Bayern Munich to Manchester United
Fee: £17.1 million

After Manchester United struggled to field a defence at all last season (as evidenced by their goals conceded record), it is only logical that their new recruitment team went out this summer and signed a ton of defenders.

One of the defenders they were keen to sign was the talented Noussair Mazraoui – a full-back who is equally adept at both attack and defence.

This transfer fee of £17.1 million could prove to be a real bargain.

Transfer: Borussia Dortmund to West Ham United
Fee: £27.5 million

West Ham have been notoriously bad at signing strikers during the Premier League era, but this summer they may have finally landed a quality striker.

Although he is only 31 years old, Niclas Füllkrug arrives in East London at the peak of his powers, having shot Borussia Dortmund into the Champions League final last season.

Daichi Kamada

Transfer: Lazio to Crystal Palace
Fee: Free

Oliver Glasner brings the Eintracht Frankfurt band back together at Crystal Palace and starts with Daichi Kamada.

The Japanese international has performed fantastically under Glasner in Germany and is by far the best free signing a Premier League club has made this summer.

Archie Gray

Transfer: Leeds United to Tottenham Hotspur
Fee: £30 million

If you’ve played a second of FM24, you’ll know how good Archie Gray’s signing for Tottenham Hotspur is.

There are no limits for the prodigy and working under a manager like Ange Postecoglou will be enormously beneficial to his development.

André Onana

Transfer: Everton to Aston Villa
Fee: £50 million

Amadou Onana has big shoes to fill at Aston Villa: The tall Belgian is set to succeed Douglas Luiz in midfield.

Luckily for Unai Emery and co., he could be just the right man for the job.

Jean-Clair Todibo

A big coup for West Ham / Jean Catuffe/GettyImages

Transfer: OGC Nice to West Ham United
Fee: £4m loan with £30m option

Given that West Ham literally Juventus up to the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo, this transfer can be considered one of the biggest transfer coups in the club’s history.

The French centre-back will completely transform the Hammers’ defence.

Mats Wieffer

Smart business / Warren Little/GettyImages

Transfer: Feyenoord to Brighton & Hove Albion
Fee: £25.4 million

As already mentioned, there is a good chance that a player signed by Brighton is quite good.

If you watched Feyenoord last season, you know that Mats Wieffer is exactly that.

His defensive strength in midfield will be crucial for Brighton this season.

Leny Yoro

Man Utd shocked Europe with the signing of Yoro / Visionhaus/GettyImages

Transfer: LOSC Lille to Manchester United
Fee: £60 million

By beating Real Madrid to sign Leny Yoro this summer, Man Utd not only proved they can still attract the most sought-after players on the market, they also signed a defender who may be a once-in-a-generation prospect.

Disappointingly, Yoro will be out of action for the first few months of the season, but once fully fit he will be an important part of Erik ten Hag’s long-term plans.

Joshua Zirkzee

Another one for Man Utd / Inaki Esnaola/GettyImages

Transfer: Bologna to Manchester United
Fee: £36.5 million

It is no exaggeration to say that Joshua Zirkzee could single-handedly power Man Utd’s attack this season.

The striker’s long play and his eye for passes will help Marcus Rashford and Co. return to their best form in the 2024/25 season.

Dominic Solanke

Tottenham has its new striker / Warren Little/GettyImages

Transfer: Bournemouth to Tottenham Hotspur
Fee: £55 million

After a season in the Premier League in which he scored the best goals of his career, Dominic Solanke has rightly earned a move to one of the top six clubs this summer.

And it could be the perfect top-six club for him too. The tall striker fit seamlessly into Postecoglou’s attacking formation and scored plenty of goals there.

Riccardo Calafiori

Arsenal’s big signing / Claudio Villa/GettyImages

Transfer: Bologna to Arsenal
Fee: £42 million

After seeing Calafiori as a star of the Italian national team at Euro 2024, it is safe to say that Arsenal fans are quite excited about this new signing.

The defender will fill a big gap in the Gunners’ team as an inverted left-back, utilising both his defensive and offensive strengths.

FBL-ESP-LIGA-VALENCIA-GIRONA

Man City’s newest winger / JAIME REINA/GettyImages

Transfer: Troyes to Manchester City
Fee: £34 million

Did Manchester City, which is part of the City Group, really pay City Group-owned club Troyes £34 million to sign Savio?

Maybe not.

Regardless, they have a pretty good player in their ranks for the 2024/25 season.

Matthijs de Ligt

Back in top form? / BSR Agency/GettyImages

Transfer: Bayern Munich to Manchester United
Fee: £38.5 million

Sure, he was second choice behind Eric Dier at the end of last season. And of course, the talkers have talked about that fact a lot since De Ligt signed for Man Utd.

However, there is no doubt that de Ligt can still become one of the best defenders in the world.

At Man Utd and under Ten Hag he has the perfect opportunity to do just that.
