Tecumseh Football hopes that last year’s experiences will prepare them for the 2024 season

LYNNVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Our Touchdown Live high school football previews are running this Friday. Let’s take a look at the Tecumseh Braves.

Last season was rough for THS as they were only 1-9. However, they were playing against several guys with limited college experience after releasing a ton of seniors from the 2022 squad that was 10-and-1 the season before.

So last year’s team had some losses, but now in 2024, the Braves are a year older, stronger, and more experienced, and the entire team is hoping that will lead to more success.

“It’s just kind of a welcome to 1A football, you know, you just ride the wave. You have a really good class and then when they leave, it can be pretty tough, like we saw last year. But our kids that were on the team last year did a great job,” said Tecumseh football head coach Bret Szabo. “Nobody wants to see a repeat of what we went through last year, and that started in January. We worked really hard in the weight room, on our speed and plyometrics and our strength development, and it really, really paid off.”

However, Tecumseh is still young in some areas and is hoping that some of the guys will emerge as leaders.

“Last year, the first team was the previous year’s second team, so we were still learning the ropes,” said Carter Smith, a senior at Tecumseh High School. “Now that we’ve had a year under our belt, hopefully we’ll do a lot better. Last year’s second team quarterback, Dax Kramer, has really stepped up. I’m very proud of him already, but I would like to see him take his game to the next level.”

“We’ve added a lot to our squad this year, especially myself. I feel like I’ve grown a lot this year. My fellow senior Carter Smith is in his second season of football. I’m really proud of him for stepping up and helping us with the team,” said Tecumseh senior Joe Mahoney. “My competitive buddy Vandon Lowe is going to be running back at the B position. Van Lowery, Noah Dimmett, all of our seniors.”

Tecumseh begins its season at home against South Spencer on Friday, August 23rd.
