Kamala Harris campaign boasts praise for Fox News host

Fox News presenter Bret Baier offered his analysis of an economic policy speech by the Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday, which led to a fiery WashingtonPost Editorial. And even though Baier’s comments included brief praise interspersed with longer but equally valid criticism, the Harris campaign edited it out and shared it as a boast on social media Friday night anyway.

The Kamala Central account on X shared a 19-second clip in which Baier gives Harris and the administration “credit for enabling Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices.” The quote in the post is prefaced with only “Fox anchor” to emphasize that it does not come from a source considered friendly to the campaign.

But the clip, which the Harris campaign presented as flattering and credible, was part of a longer analysis by Baier that was not praise or recognition and in which Baier initially dismissed some of Harris’ views on Donald Trump – who, like other Republicans, has accused the Democratic candidate of being a “copycat.”

Baier said Harris was doing a “dance” to get away from Bidenomics policies and said her talk of red tape was hard to believe.

“It’s hard to imagine that the person who wanted to ban fracking and plastic straws in 2019 will be the champion of cutting red tape and reducing regulations today,” he said. “But maybe that transition will happen. We’ll see.”

It’s interesting to hear a repositioning here, almost as if Vice President Harris had not been part of the Harris, the Biden-Harris administration, or had not been part of the crucial vote on the $1.9 trillion that was added to the economy, which many say accelerated inflation and caused some of these problems. She is now trying to distance herself, or at least differentiate herself from the Biden economic plan and Bidenomics. Interestingly, the first initiative comes to the left of President Biden, with an initiative that she says will address price gouging. I just said this before she started, that there are a number of economists, obviously on the right, but definitely on the left as well, who have concerns about some of these plans.

And when she talks about former President Trump’s plans to raise taxes, that’s not what he’s talking about. He’s talking about tariffs on other countries and their products coming here so that the United States can succeed. I have to give credit to the Vice President and the administration for negotiating on pharmaceutical and drug pricing. They had success on big, specific drugs and were able to bring those prices down in negotiations, as you heard from President Biden just yesterday. She’s taken advantage of that, too. But again, it’s about moving away from Bidenomics, creating her own vision, and still embracing some of the positive aspects of the economy that she wants to call the strongest in the world. So I think we’ll see a lot of that next week in Chicago.

Also, it’s notable to hear the Vice President talk about reducing red tape and regulations. I mean, again, this is a nod to former President Trump’s speech, and it’s hard to imagine that the person who wanted to ban fracking and plastic straws in 2019 would be the champion of reducing red tape and regulations today. But maybe that transition will happen. We’ll see.
