Former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis dies suddenly at the age of 35

Vontae Davis, the former cornerback for the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts, has died suddenly at the age of 35.

His former teams and teammates came together to pay their respects to Davis, a two-time Pro Bowl player in 2014 and 2015, after he was found unconscious in a Fort Lauderdale apartment building.

A cause of death has not yet been released, but Davie Police are reportedly investigating and believe there was no foul play.

The Colts, for whom Davis played from 2012 to 2017, said on X: “We are devastated to hear of the passing of Vontae Davis. He will be greatly missed and we send our prayers to his family and loved ones.”

“In his six seasons with the Horseshoe, he was an outstanding player, but he was an even better teammate who smiled every day and brought positive energy.”

The Dolphins, who gave him his chance in the NFL after his college football success with Illinois, wrote: “We are heartbroken by the sudden passing of former Dolphins CB Vontae Davis and extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Those who were on the field with Davis also expressed their respect on social media, with Kenny Moore II declaring, “It hurts to see this, OG. You’re a legend, VD.”

Reggie Wayne, the former wide receiver and former colleague in Indianapolis, wrote: “Sad day. It was a pleasure wearing the horseshoe with you, buddy. Rest in peace, champ.”

Davis, the brother of Super Bowl winner Vernon, ended his professional career in 2018 by announcing his retirement in the middle of a game for the Bulls.
