Charlotte Hornets draft picks throw first pitch at Charlotte Knights game

Earlier this week, the Charlotte Hornets social media team shared a sneak peek of LaMelo Ball playing golf for the first time alongside some of his teammates and Vice President of Basketball Operations Jeff Peterson.

On Thursday night, the Hornets sent rookies Tidjane Salaün and KJ Simpson to Truist Park to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Charlotte Knights game.

Salaün started his windup well, but didn’t stretch back and follow through on his throw. Instead, he threw the ball to the plate while keeping his hand in the air as if he had just sunk a three-pointer. Sometimes you just can’t take the basketball away from the player. At least he made it to the plate and threw a catchable ball. The same can’t be said for Charlotte’s second-round pick, KJ Simpson, who bounced the pitch a good five feet or so in front of the plate.

It was an interesting week with the Hornets players trying out other sports they are not used to. Maybe next week we will see Mark Williams or Taj Gibson throwing some balls in the gutter at the bowling alley.
