Ashutosh Singh replaces Zeeshan Ali as India’s Davis Cup coach

The Indian team will have a new coach, former national champion Ashutosh Singh, for its Davis Cup World Group first round match against Sweden, to be played on September 14 and 15 on the indoor hard courts of the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm.

After long-time coach Zeeshan Ali quit his job, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) announced the name of Ashutosh, who was actually involved in preparing the team for the final match against Pakistan. Ashutosh had also coached the national tennis team at the Asian Indoor Games.

Sumit Nagal will lead the team comprising Ramkumar Ramanathan, Sriram Balaji, Niki Poonacha and Siddharth Vishwakarma.

The wiry left-hander Siddharth, national champion and National Games champion, gets a chance after his series of good results in professional sport.

The bright young player Aryan Shah was also kept as a reserve player.

Rohit Rajpal, who missed the match against Pakistan due to personal reasons, will continue to captain the team.

The team is supported by two physiotherapists, Yash Pandey and Debashish Das.

Making the announcement, AITA Secretary General Anil Dhupar expressed his confidence that the team would perform well in Sweden.
