Detroit Tigers add a personal touch to their uniforms for MLB Players’ Weekend

Detroit – The Tigers add a personal touch to their tools this week.

Major League Baseball is once again celebrating Players’ Weekend from Friday to Sunday, where players can show a little of their personality with customized equipment, especially soccer shoes and bats.

And the Tigers have some gems to look forward to, starting with Friday night’s series opener against the New York Yankees at Comerica Park.

Ace Tarik Skubal will sport one of the funnier designs on his boots, featuring Shaggy and Scooby-Doo – a nod to his nickname Skoob. There’s a pastel floral pattern in the style of the Mystery Machine.

Other notable Tigers designs:

▶ Reliever Shelby Miller wears his cleats that raise awareness of STXBP1, a disease that affects his three-year-old son, Kyler. The right shoe reads “Science + Love = Cure,” while the left shoe features a painting of Kyler.

▶ Designated hitter Justyn-Henry Malloy, one of the black players on the Tigers’ roster, will pay tribute with his bats to Hank Aaron (No. 44, Malloy’s number) and Jackie Robinson (No. 42).

▶ Third basemen Matt Vierling and Andy Ibanez add some Tigers flair to their game with custom bats, including one that features the color scheme of the team’s City Connect uniforms. Vierling and infielder Zach McKinstry will also wear Motor City cleats that can be used with the City Connect uniforms for the remainder of the season.

▶ Infielder/outfielder Bligh Madris pays tribute to his hometown of Las Vegas with the city’s famous welcome sign and a royal flush on his soccer cleats.

▶ Second baseman Colt Keith’s soccer shoes feature a Fortnite design.

Players Weekend takes on special significance for the Tigers because after playing the Yankees in Detroit on Friday and Saturday, they move on to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, for MLB’s seventh Little League Classic, which will be broadcast on “Sunday Night Baseball.”
