Emily in Paris, Season 4, Episode 4: Grey is the New Black
Although Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) has officially chosen Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) over Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), there are still some things to be clarified in their complicated relationship, as we will see in Emily in Paris Season 4, Episode 4.
Of course, Emily can proudly announce to Mindy (Ashley Park) that these days she is “someone who lives the question instead of always trying to find the right answer,” but our heroine still wants clarity about her romance with the Frenchman and also about when exactly his ex will move out of his apartment.
Too many people at Chateau Gabriel
After a night of steamy texting during church services at L’esprit de Gigi, Emily and Gabriel are looking forward to some alone time at their apartment – his own apartment is still pretty full, as both Camille (Camille Razat) and Sofia (Melia Kreiling) have moved in – except for a tearful Mindy, who is saddened by the drama between her and Nicolas de Léon (Paul Forman) following Le Monde’s exposé against his father. Gabriel takes this as a sign to leave and lets the two women talk, but it’s clear that the lack of privacy is becoming frustrating for the newly reunited couple.
It doesn’t help that Gabriel’s landlady has found out that there are three of him living in the apartment, which violates his rental agreement. Camille manages to appease the owner with a piece of homemade quiche and the assurance that Sofia is just a friend from Greece who is coming to visit.
Her Foursome relationship continues as Gabriel forgets to tell Emily that both Camille and Sofia will be joining them for desserts at the restaurant, under the pretense that he’s hiring a top-notch pastry chef to secure the Michelin star. Em isn’t too happy about the whole situation, especially as Camille and Gabriel are chummy about a vacation to Megève together in their native tongue, but Gabriel makes up for it with a romantic, secret rendezvous on the roof of their apartment building.
However, when Sofia later tells Emily that Camille has snubbed every single new apartment they’ve seen, Emily desperately confirms her illegal living situation to the landlord in the hope that it will evict the women from Gabriel’s house. “Too many people!” she screams.
She tells Gabriel what she did at the Laurent Gà Paris launch party. She thought she could “live in the grey area and be cool with it,” but that’s just not her thing, she needs boundaries, order “and a blanket over my bed.” He surprises her by telling her that he also told the landlady about the situation and doesn’t want to lose her or his apartment because of this whole mess.
At the same party, Camille reveals that the owner has only given them 24 hours to vacate Gabriel’s apartment, but there is good news: she and Sofia will be moving into the vacant apartment right next door. It looks like Emily’s worries are far from over: “She’s having his baby. Did you really think she would move away from him?” Sofia asks
Who will Nico choose: Mindy or Louis?
Since the Le Monde article against Louis de Léon (Pierre Deny), things have been tense between Mindy and Nicolas, and the family is trying to limit the damage. First, Mindy refuses to be photographed with Louis during a charity event because she doesn’t want to be involved or associated with the scandal. Then Nico refuses to attend Laurent G’s launch party, where Mindy would perform with the band, because JVMA has stopped funding the yacht club in revenge for Sylvie’s (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) participation in the article. She tells him that she is not asking him to choose between JVMA and Agence Grateau, but simply to choose her.
It doesn’t help that during the “Laurent G à Paris” event, sparks fly between Mindy and Benoît (Kevin Dias) on stage, so much so that Luc (Bruno Gouery) thinks they are a couple.
When Nico shows up at the Laurent G party to surprise Mindy, he mentions that he unfortunately missed her performance – although that was probably for the best, otherwise he would have noticed all the chemistry between the band members. He tells her that he told the JVMA board that he won’t work for the company while his father is still CEO. The board wants Louis to step down, which may mean Nico could step up as CEO. As he and Mindy kiss in celebration, Benoît looks on moodily. Uh-oh, looks like another messy love triangle!
Life is a beach for Agence Grateau
Yes, Sylvie and co. panic a little when they learn that JVMA will not finance Laurent G.’s (Arnaud Binard) new yacht club after all, especially since the opening party is so close and over 500 people have already confirmed their attendance. Laurent, however, is not upset about the deal – he is proud of his wife for being so involved. He also missed Saint-Tropez and its beach club there, he tells Sylvie.
Sylvie isn’t thrilled that her husband is leaving Paris for the coast, and she doesn’t want Agence Grateau to be “too controversial” for her clients to want to work with her. (Although her team still receives work from beauty greats like Augustinus Bader.) As she desperately tries to find a new location to launch Laurent G à Paris, she turns to an unlikely source: her mother, Héloïse (Liliane Rovère), who is perhaps even more intimidating and French than her daughter. This woman owned a trendy Parisian nightclub in the 1970s and reportedly once had an affair with Mick Jagger and Rod Stewart… at the same time!
At lunch with Mama, Sylvie asks if she can use Héloïse’s old, empty nightclub for the Laurent G launch. Mama has some concerns about the The World Article and some conditions, but ultimately agrees. And what about filling the space with water and sand to imitate a beach? “Carla Bruni almost drowned here in the 80s at a foam party,” assures Héloïse; the club can use a little water.
The event is a huge success, thanks in part to the strategic arrival of Gregory Dupree’s new (and very phallic) fashion collection for Pierre Cadault. Nicholas and the JVMA crew had previously brutally trashed Gregory’s entire presentation, and that, along with Louis and co. trying to dig something up against Sylvie via Julien (Samuel Arnold), led to him leaving his cozy corner office and returning to Agence Grateau. The team is officially back together, and Gregory Dupree’s daring looks will be featured in every tabloid in Paris. “Louis will be furious!” enthuses Sylvie.
