The Last of Us actress Abby needed more security while filming the TV series

Filming is currently underway for The Last of Us Season 2 and it seems that the studios had to take more security precautions for Abby actress Kaitlyn Dever. The second season of the series closely follows the events of The Last of Us Part II, whose plot sparked strong reactions among players.

Why did Abby need more security in the TV series The Last of Us?

Here’s a spoiler-free explanation. The plot of The Last of Us Part II caused controversy even before the game’s release after a massive leak of the “woke” storyline and critical scenes surfaced. Unhappy players called for a remake of the game, while others slammed the game in reviews and lambasted developer Naughty Dog and others involved in the game’s development.

The majority of the abuse was directed at actress Laura Bailey, who even admitted that the character’s actions meant she was meant to be disliked by gamers. Although Naughty Dog condemned the rampant toxicity within the gaming community, Isabela Merced, who plays Dina in the second season of the TV series, told Happy Sad Confused that the hostility towards the fictional character continues even today:

“There are so many weird people in this world because there are people who really hate Abby even though she’s not a real person. Just to remind you, not a real person. And Kaitlyn had to be especially well protected during filming.”

Merced added that Dever is “a cool, calm person who never lets anything bother him” and “always has his head in the right place.” However, there is concern that Dever will face hate after The Last of Us Season 2 airs, especially since death threats against Bailey continued years after The Last of Us Part II was released.
