LL Flooring, formerly Lumber Liquidators, will close its Falls Township location due to company financial problems.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this week after struggling for a decade.

The store, located at 150 Lincoln Highway next to a Sherwin-Williams Paints store, opened its doors in 2016. LL Flooring took over the space that previously housed a dry cleaner.

To reduce its inventory, LL Flooring has announced clearance sales, but with the understanding that all purchases are final.

LL Flooring CEO Charles Tyson addressed a letter to his customers, describing the bankruptcy filing as “a legal tool that provides us with time and financial flexibility while we pursue a sale of the company while maintaining operations.”

The Virginia-based flooring retailer has been in negotiations since earlier this week with several parties interested in acquiring the company, it said in a statement.

According to bankruptcy filings and the company’s website, LL Flooring operates 94 stores that are slated for closure.

The company operates more than 300 locations nationwide.

Tyson said the bankruptcy filing and store closures would give the company “additional time and financial flexibility.”

The decision to rename Lumber Liquidators to LL Flooring came after an investigation by CBS News’ “60 Minutes” found excessive levels of formaldehyde in the company’s laminate flooring. In 2019, the company was fined $33 million for misleading investors about the product’s safety.

LL Flooring is one of the largest flooring retailers in the USA
