At the end of June, Toru Furuya retired from the role of Sabo in A piece due to his controversial extramarital affair with a fan. Now Toei Animation has announced a new voice actor for the Flame Emperor, who will be A piece Episode 1116.




The official social media accounts for A piece confirmed that a new voice actor has been chosen for Sabo and will make his debut in this week’s episode of A piece. Japanese actor and singer Miyu Irino will take on the role of Furuya in episode 1116. Irino is best known as the voice actor Haku in Spirited AwayShoya Ishida in A silent voice and Sora in Kingdom Hearts. A piece Episode 1116 will premiere on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

One Piece reveals Sabo’s new voice actor after Toru Furuya controversy


Furuya previously played Sabo in A piece and Yamcha in Dragon Ballstepped down from these and other roles after confirming his controversial affair with a fan. The 70-year-old veteran voice actor admitted to having a marital affair with a fan in her 30s for four and a half years. During that time, Furuya admitted to physically assaulting her and pressuring her to have an abortion, and apologized for it. While Furuya publicly admitted to the affair on May 22, he did not officially step down from his ongoing anime roles until June 22.

Currently, there are no further announcements about Furuya’s other anime roles, such as Rei Furuya from Detective Conan (Case closed). Before deleting his social media account on X, Furuya issued an official statement saying, “Due to my selfish actions, I, Toru Furuya, have caused trouble and worry to many people. This incident has tarnished the works and character image of Detective Conan And A piece. In order to compensate for the damage caused to these works and characters, and to support the fans of these works, after careful consideration and with great pain, I have decided to withdraw from the dubbing of the characters Furuya Rei and Sabo. Once again, I sincerely apologize to everyone for the considerable inconvenience caused. I deeply regret this incident and am truly sorry.”

Last weekend was the annual celebration of the popular Shonen Jump series called One Piece Day, which honored the work of Eiichiro Oda and introduced exciting new projects for the franchise. The biggest announcement was the first look at the new A piece Anime TV remake from Netflix and Wit Studios. Concept art for the new series was shown for the first time. Headliner for The One Piece is Masashi Koizuka, director and storyboard artist for Attack on Titan.


New and previous episodes of A piece are available on several streaming services, including Crunchyroll and Netflix. Oda’s ongoing original manga is also available through Viz Media and the Manga Plus app. Manga Plus recently launched an online store for North American fans, offering new and exclusive merchandise for A piece and other Shonen Jump Title.
