Telangana students demand Revanth Reddy to sack retired civil servants

HYDERABAD: Members of the Telangana Students Association (TSA) at Osmania University demanded that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy remove retired employees who continue to hold senior positions, such as department heads in various government departments.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle on Friday, NM Srikanth Yadav, president of TSA, said that in the last decade, about 1,050 retired employees, who were recruited by the previous BRS government, have continued working in various government departments in senior positions such as departmental heads and other senior posts. Yadav said the Telangana government spends about Rs 1,800 crore annually on their salaries and other allowances.

“Due to this development, deserving senior executives are forced to retire without promotion. Moreover, unemployed youth are also unable to find work in the public sector,” he explained.

Another student leader, Ramkishan, said that while in opposition, Revanth Reddy had promised to sack retired employees who were illegally hired by the K. Chandrashekar Rao government.

“Revanth Reddy has also assured the public that if Congress comes to power, he will immediately discharge these retired employees, promote senior officers and fill up vacancies through regular recruitment to the unemployed,” he said.

The TSA leadership said that even after eight months in power, the Congress government has failed to implement its promises in this regard.
