The lives of animals surrendered to shelters are turned upside down. It’s a new environment with new things, sounds and people. But one cat was determined to keep her home as long as possible.

An orange cat was surrendered to a shelter with her comfort blanket from home. For this cat, it wasn’t just a piece of home. It was her last memory of her family. The familiar smell reminded her of home and likely comforted her as she moved into the stressful environment of the shelter. And she clung to her comfort blanket every moment of the day.

TikTok user @savannapalmerr recounted in a July 29 TikTok video how she found this surrendered cat every morning. His bright pink blanket was spread across the floor of his kennel and he was huddled inside it, blocking out the reality of his life in the shelter.

She carefully removed the blanket to expose the cat’s face and petted him. He accepted the attention before crawling back into his “last piece of home.” As the caption explained, this cat “never wanted to leave his comfort blanket.”

The blanket was the only thing from his previous life that he had taken with him to the shelter. He curled up in the blanket and never wanted to leave it again. It was his comforting shield that surrounded him with familiar smells and memories.

Luckily, his new family came forward and adopted him. He’s getting all new things and is once again being showered with love and endless cuddles. TikTokers shared their hope that he can keep this blanket to provide him with comfort in his new home.

The heartbreaking TikTok clip immediately moved viewers to tears, showing that they can see that this poor baby was very loved. As of Friday, the video had over 3.2 million views, 635,900 likes and nearly 3,000 comments.

“The fact that someone wanted to give him the comfort of his blankie shows that they loved him. It’s so heartbreaking for both parties. I hope he found his family for life,” commented one viewer.

“WITH his blanket. Someone loved him and had to give him up,” added a second Tiktoker, while a third wrote, “My heart can’t take this.”

Another said: “When he’s in his blankie, he’s still home.”
