Oxford’s Tar wins the Judge’s Choice Award on Dance Like the Stars

Dr. William Teer of Oxford won the Judges’ Choice category for his quickstep to Blue Suede Shoes at the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi’s annual Dance Like the Stars event, which raised over $223,000 for the youth development organization.

The event took place on August 3 at the Cadence Bank Arena in Tupelo. Nine local celebrities competed for the titles of Grand Champion and Judges’ Choice. Each celebrity was paired with a dance professional at the Dance Studio of Tupelo to learn and perform a dance routine.

Georgia Kate Conner of Ripley won the Grand Champion Fundraising category with raised $47,701.

Second place went to Robert Bass, representing Tupelo, with total prize money of $25,554, and third place went to Katie Scott Haywood, also of Tupelo, with total prize money of $25,435.

Michael Holloway, representing Tupelo, took second place in the Jury’s Choice category and Candace Hunt, also of Tupelo, took third place.

The Dance Studio of Tupelo is owned by Rubye Del Harden. Professional teachers have included Tammy Wilson, Andrew Davis, Sara Davis, Gage Wood and Cameron Stevens.

Celebrity hosts included Allie Martin, Katrina Ivy, Alyssa Martin, Daniella Oropeza and Greg Pirkle.

The Facebook People’s Choice Award went to both Haywood and Knight.
