Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars tip their cowboy hats to the era of Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner in their new music video for “Die With a Smile,” the pop duo’s new collaboration out Friday (August 16) at midnight ET.

The video finds the “Just Dance” singer and Silk Sonic bandleader rocking out on a set reminiscent of a retro music variety TV show. They’re wearing matching red and blue outfits that wouldn’t have looked out of place on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in the 1960s. Mars plays guitar and Gaga sits at the piano – a cigarette dangling from her lips, her blonde curls teased beyond recognition in true Parton style – and the pair passionately belt out their new, existential song.

“If the world was ending, I’d wanna be next to you/ When the party was over and our time on earth was up,” Mars and Gaga sing on the track, which has more wistful ’70s soul than C&W sound. “I’d wanna hold you just a little while/ And die with a smile.”

Shortly after the end of the project joker star and “Uptown Funk!” singer made “Die With a Smile” its live debut at Mars’ concert on Thursday night (August 15) at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. He wore a cowboy hat for the show, while Gaga once again sported beehive hair similar to her look in the music video.

“Ladies and gentlemen, raise your hands for icon and pop queen Lady Gaga!” said Mars as he introduced his duet partner to wild cheers from the surprised crowd.

The pair barely gave fans a taste before announcing their new song was on the way, simply posting the cover art and confirming the release date on Instagram less than 12 hours in advance. “WHILE YOU WAIT FOR LG7… ‘DIE WITH A SMILE’ a duet with @brunomars ❤️‍🔥,” Gaga wrote at the time, teasing her upcoming seventh album.
