Internet agrees on a woman’s “girl math” about the age of young and old

A woman has garnered a ton of likes and views for her unique take on why her 40-year-old friend is extremely young while she is very old at 27. One user called it “girl math at its finest.”

Pigmami (@pigmami) shared her wisdom on TikTok, garnering 189,400 likes and 1.3 million views. Her friend shared how old she felt at her 40th birthday party, but the 27-year-old woman gave her verdict on why she was actually youthful.

“40 is a very young age. 27 is a very old age. I am older than her now. And I think everyone can have a different old and young age, but these are my current details that I have written down,” she said in the video while showing her old and young age that she had written down in her notebook.

Many users attributed this mindset to “Girl Math.” Girl Math is a viral term that humorously refers to women justifying their spending decisions, or in this case, their perception of age.

The term refers to a way of thinking that is playful and subjective, focusing on personal feelings rather than objective reality.

The TikToker categorized different age groups as “old” or “young” depending on their emotional state, regardless of the actual number.

Her “extremely old ages” are: 16, 20 and 27. She predicts that she will also be very old at 39, 50 and 57.

Their young ages include: 11, 15, 22 and 25.

“29, I think I’m still a young whippersnapper. At 29, I’ll be super young. 70, I think that’s really young too,” she said, predicting her future youthful years.

She also predicted that she would feel extremely young at 38 and 49.

According to a 2023 study, the real term for this way of feeling throughout your life is “subjective age” – that is, how old or young you feel, regardless of your actual age.

The study shows that this perception can vary depending on life experience, social context and even mood.

It’s not uncommon for people to feel younger or older than they are, depending on these factors. This fluid sense of age can affect how a person views milestones such as birthdays and how people interact with others at different stages of life.

“I don’t feel like I age linearly with each year. I get older and accumulate things. I feel like I oscillate between years that were harder or easier because I was older or younger,” the TikToker said.

The woman’s wisdom was very positive among commentators.

“Girl math at its finest, I felt very old at 26. 31? A baby, very demure, very cute,” said one user.

“I think 19 is the youngest age you can be,” Dove said.

“29 is old, but 30 is really young,” commented Arden Rose.

“At 27 I was very old, but at 34 I am now very young. At 35 I am old, but at 36 I am young again. I can’t explain it further,” added another viewer.

“I just turned 37 and can attest that this is an old year,” said one viewer.
