A total of 38 female match officials, including 12 referees, 24 assistant referees and 2 assistant referees, will officiate the matches.

“We have selected a talented group of referees and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will play a key role in their development. Following the successful FIFA Women’s World Cup last year, we are already working on the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027. Knowing that an important generational change will be necessary in FIFA TEAM ONE, this tournament will provide referees who have the potential to be candidates for Brazil 2027 the opportunity to work under the guidance of the best FIFA referee educators,” said FIFA Referees Committee Chairman Pierluigi Collina.

“We are also looking forward to further testing video assistance in football. It is a clear example of how FIFA is driving forward the use of technology to support referees.”

After the successful tests at the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup 2024™ and the planned experiment At the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Colombia 2024™, this year’s edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup™ will be the third FIFA tournament in which Football Video Support (FVS).

The trial follows numerous requests from FIFA member associations for an alternative, cost-effective way to support match officials using technology. In response to these requests, FIFA has developed VAR, which unlike the Video Assistant Referee System does not use dedicated video match officials and therefore does not review all match-changing incidents.

Instead, the responsibility lies with the respective head coaches, who are allowed to make a limited number of review requests per match if they believe that a clear and obvious error has been made in game-changing incidents such as goals, penalty decisions, direct red cards or cases of mistaken identity. Players can also recommend that their coach request a review. For more information on the system, see Here.

“The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is the first FIFA competition to be hosted in the Dominican Republic, which makes it even more special. Refereeing will be part of the entire tournament as we plan to share knowledge with the local refereeing community,” said Massimo Busacca, FIFA Director of Refereeing.
