Player ratings: Real Madrid 2-0 Atalanta; UEFA Super Cup 2024

Below you can find the full player ratings:

Thibaut Courtois – 7: Due to Atalanta’s 1v1 high pressing, he had a lot of touches (55 compared to Mbappe’s 44). Courtois as a ball option gave Madrid +1 possession, but his long balls were often too long. He made an incredible save on a Pasalic header early in the second half.

Daniel Carvajal – 7.5: In the first game after his return, however, he remained calm and continued his good form. He often made runs into the middle and changed position to create an opportunity in the build-up play. He committed a number of good tactical fouls to deny Atalanta a dangerous counterattack.

Eder Militao – 7: Some fantastic tackles with the toe to win the ball for Atalanta in dangerous moments.

Toni Ruediger – 7: An important recovery run towards the end of the first half to deny Lookman a 1v1 with Thibaut Courtois.

Ferland Mendy – 7: Zappacosta and Charles De Ketelaere posed a challenge for the Frenchman with their energy and movement without the ball. Ferland defended well at the back post and went high on the wing to win the ball back.

Tchouameni – 6: In the first half he was spread too thin in midfield and left his pivot position too often, applying unnecessary pressure and expending too much energy. He improved dramatically in the second half, playing much closer to the back four and holding his position.

Federer – 7: Good and bad moments – won challenges high up the pitch which led to chances in the final third but also struggled with some of his passes from deep positions which helped Madrid escape the pressure. Found good positions in the box in attack and was rewarded with a goal which opened the scoring.

Jude Bellingham – 9: Sensational performance – Jude Bellingham, kudos. Lots of buttery turns out of pressure and feints to shake off his mark. Had to cover a huge amount of ground in midfield as the team weren’t compact enough on either side of the ball. Despite all his energy, he managed to find several good scoring opportunities and was unlucky not to score a goal or two. Got an assist with a perfect pass to Mbappe in the box.

Vinicius Junior – 7: He was a little out of rhythm, the final ball was forced and rarely found its target, but in typical Vinicius Junior fashion, he found a magical moment with a change of pace to allow Fede Valverde to score the first goal of the season. A decisive player, even in games where he is not at his best.

Rodrigo – 6.5: Played mainly on the right but was able to alternate with Mbappe (centre) and Vini (left). The best chance of the first half fell to Rodrygo on the left, who received a pass from Vini on the right. The Brazilian shot off balance onto the crossbar. With a key challenge high up the pitch and the subsequent pass to Vinicius, he set up Mbappe’s goal, Madrid’s second. Took responsibility as the new de facto set-piece taker.

Kylian Mbappe – 6: This is where his talent showed, but he was forced to play with his back to goal for much of the first half. Playing mainly on the left wing in the second half, he immediately influenced the game with an early shot followed by a pass to Bellingham in the box. He kept disappearing from the game but was gifted a goal thanks to a pass from Jude Bellingham in the box.

Substitutions:

Brahim Diaz – 7: Great at half turning and finding spaces between lines.

Luka Modric – 7: Executed his passes perfectly and brought additional quality to the field.

Arda Guler / Dani Ceballos / Lucas Vazquez – N/A: In the 89th minute, substitutions are made to finish the game.
