MONTERREY, Florida. – A 34-year-old woman was arrested on murder and child abuse charges in connection with the death of a 9-year-old girl in Montverde in June, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Tyshael Elise Martin, 34, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the death of her boyfriend’s daughter, Jamaria Sessions, who was found dead June 17 in a home in the 16,000 block of Harbor Oak Drive, officials said.

According to the sheriff’s office, the girl’s injuries were “consistent with physical abuse.”

Shortly before the girl’s death, investigators received footage from the family’s security system on June 15 showing Jamaria “being brutally attacked by the family’s 100-pound Rottweiler, with Tyshael commanding the attack and holding the dog’s leash,” officials said.

“The abuse continued until Tyshael can be seen dragging Jamaria’s nearly motionless body across the floor. Jamaria was then repeatedly hit and shaken by Tyshael. In the video, he can be heard possibly saying, ‘I’m going to kill her,'” a press release said.

The sheriff’s office said detectives found the girl was punished by sitting against a wall for long periods of time, running in place with her arms raised, hitting her with objects, kicking her, punching her and pinching her.

An autopsy report found the girl’s cause of death was multiple blunt trauma to the head and torso, as well as a thermal injury to the right foot. According to an affidavit, the girl suffered a burn to her foot when Martin sprayed boiling water on the girl’s hair.

Martin is being held without bail in the Lake County Jail.

In addition to the charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, she also faces a charge of child neglect.
