Ten-month-old girl dies in hospital three days after accident in which a 46-year-old man also died and six others were injured

Three days after a car accident in Devon in which a 46-year-old man died and six others were injured, a ten-month-old girl has died in hospital.

The accident involving a Vauxhall Astra and a Kia Rio occurred at Iron Railings Cross on an unnamed road near Tavistock, Devon, at around 12.55pm on Monday.

The girl was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital with serious injuries after the accident, but unfortunately died in the early hours of the morning, police said.

A 46-year-old local man who was sitting in the passenger seat of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

The emergency services were on site and four other people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The girl was taken to Bristol Children's Hospital (pictured) with serious injuries following the accident, but sadly died in the early hours of the morning, police said.

Three other people suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

A man in his 30s from Peterborough was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and serious bodily harm by careless driving.

He was released on bail pending further investigations.

Sergeant Troy Bennett said: “This is a tragic incident. Our officers’ thoughts are with the families and friends of all those involved.”

“This will have shocked and saddened the community, particularly given the death of a young child.”

“We are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision and specialist officers are supporting the families affected.”

Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward.

On Tuesday, August 27, the road was reopened at around 00:30.
