The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a woman in connection with the death of her boyfriend’s nine-year-old daughter.

According to a news release from the agency, the Montverde woman was arrested Wednesday after detectives obtained a warrant for her arrest charging her with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and child neglect. The charges followed an investigation into the death of Jamaria Sessions.

Investigators arrested Tyshael Elise Martin, 34, near her home in Montverde shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Martin was arrested taken to the Lake County Jail and is being held without bail.

The investigation began in the early hours of June 17 after a 911 call was received that 9-year-old Jamaria was unresponsive in the apartment where she lived with Martin.

According to the press release, rescue workers found numerous abrasions, bruises, burns and possible bite marks on Jamaria’s body. At that point, the sheriff’s office was requested for assistance.

A preliminary on-site examination by the medical examiner found the injuries were consistent with physical abuse. Investigators executed a search warrant to obtain video footage from the family’s security system.

According to the press release, a video from the night of June 15 shows Jamaria being brutally attacked by the family’s 48-kilogram Rottweiler while Martin holds the dog’s leash and gives orders.

The video shows Martin repeatedly kicking the motionless Jamaria and dragging the girl’s body across the ground. Jamaria was then repeatedly punched and shaken by Martin, the news release said, and investigators say the recording sounds like the woman is saying, “I’m going to kill her.”

During their investigation, questioning and analysis of additional video and text messages, investigators found that Jamaria’s typical punishment included sitting against the wall for long periods of time, running in place with her arms raised, hitting with objects, kicking, punching and pinching.

The 5th The cause of death was listed as complications from multiple blunt trauma to the head, torso and extremities, as well as thermal injury to the right foot, according to the county medical examiner. The cause of death was listed as homicide.
