How much do gold Shohei Ohtani decoy bobbleheads cost on eBay?

In Roald Dahl’s classic book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The protagonist of the title finds a golden ticket in the wrapper of a chocolate bar. With this ticket, he and four other children who find tickets can take part in a special tour of Willy Wonka’s magic factory with their families.

In real life, Charlie would have put the ticket on eBay.

A Wonka-like scene unfolded at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday when the team handed out bobbleheads featuring star Shohei Ohtani and his dog Decoy as giveaways to the first 40,000 fans at the Dodgers’ 7 p.m. game against the Baltimore Orioles.

More than eight hours before first pitch, the line of fans waiting to get into the stadium stretched almost to the intersection of Vin Scully Ave. and Stadium Way:

Was it worth the wait?

In dollars and cents, the answer is yes—at least if you were lucky enough to get your hands on one of the limited edition gold bobbleheads. As of Thursday morning, the highest bid price on eBay for a gold Shohei Ohtani/Decoy bobblehead was $20,000.

The image of the $20,000 item, from eBay user sefor_92, shows the gold bobblehead reflecting sunlight in a nearly empty Dodger Stadium, suggesting that the seller was indeed among those lining up early Wednesday to get their bobblehead.

Too rich for you? Check out the identical version for $18,000, $17,000 or $16,999. One seller offered a gold bobblehead for less than $1,000. That item had more than 1,000 views and three bids within 12 hours of the first listing on Wednesday.

The unpopular decision among Dodger fans seemed to be to keep the bobblehead for themselves.

The bobbleheads were limited to the first 40,000 spectators. Most were not gold-plated. But as eBay listings show, some of the announced 53,290 spectators appeared to leave Wednesday’s game with more than one bobblehead. They may even have brought an extra family member with them.

It was no coincidence that fans who missed the bobblehead raffle were able to watch the Dodgers’ 6-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Ohtani not only opened the game with a home run, but also caught the ceremonial first pitch – from Decoy.

Every bobblehead has a price, whether you waited in line or bought it on eBay.

But watching a dog retrieve a baseball? Priceless.
