Simone Biles inspires us to examine the problems of little girls
Being small: It’s great for gymnastics, but not so great for finding jeans in the right length, reaching the top shelf at the supermarket, and kissing big boys.
All in all Us introduces itself Simone Biles is comfortable with her petite 4ft 4in frame – all those gold medals probably weigh her down a bit. But the Olympic gymnast has revealed that finding clothes that don’t overwhelm her is a nightmare, taking to Instagram to share a photo of the tiny pair of Abercrombie & Fitch size 23/000 trousers she triumphantly tracked down.
Although Biles, 27, is smaller than most, she’s not the only petite star familiar with these everyday little girl problems. Let’s see who can relate…
Problem No. 1 for little girls: It’s difficult to pose with Taylor Swift
who would have thought Sabrina Carpenter was only 5′? Taylor Swiftthat’s who. When the two singers shared the stage together at the 2022 American Music Awards, they hugged, but even though they were wearing sky-high heels, Carpenter barely reached Swift’s 6-foot-tall shoulders.
For every little friend there must be a big friend… it’s just a law of science 💁♀️ #TaylorSwift And #SabrinaCarpenter share a beautiful moment on the #AMAs Stage 💕 pic.twitter.com/sXCCjsbXYo

Carpenter herself is actually quite excited about her 5’0″ height – until a few years ago she was 5’1″ tall! In 2015, she happily announced on X: “BREAKING NEWS: I AM 5’0″ tall!” – an important milestone for all petite girls!
Problem No. 2 for little girls: Everyone thinks you’re a child
Kristen Bell is 5’1″ tall, but even though she’s a 44-year-old successful actress, producer and mother of two, she’s still sometimes mistaken for a child. “For R-rated movies, I have to ask for my ID,” she says. “And I’m often treated condescendingly. When I try to rent a car or buy a plane ticket or other things that adults do, all I get is ‘Okaaaaaay, honey.’ I remember buying crayons in a restaurant when I was 18.”
But at least Bell’s husband, Dax Shepardcan help her out when she needs it – at 1.88 m tall, he is over 30 cm taller than his petite wife.
Problem #3 for little girls: People constantly remind you how small you are
Most people know their own size, right? And yet, whether you are very short or very tall, everyone loves to make sure you are aware of something Zoe Kravitzwho is 1.55 m tall (every little girl knows that half is important!), constantly encounters. “How often am I reminded of how small I am!” she said GQ“I go to the airport and they say, ‘In reality, you’re much smaller.’ Thanks for the reminder!”
Kravitz, 35, is another star with a much taller partner – her 6-foot-1 fiancé. Channing Tatumhas a whole foot on it… and yet the two look perfect together!
Problem 4 for little girls: Kissing counts as a workout
There’s a reason why many famous couples with large height differences no longer exist – kissing someone who is over a foot taller than you gets tiring! 1.60 m Kim Kardashian and 6’9″ Chris Humphries had 18 inches between them, 5’2″ Lisa Bonet and 1.93 m Jason Momoa had a gap of 14 inches and 7’1″ Shaquille O’Neal and 5’2″ Nicole Alexander had an astonishing size difference of 23 inches.
Still, some couples have found ways to bridge the gap – 5’3″ Elsa Pataky and 1.90 m Chris Hemsworth have been successful for 14 years and counting. But painful heels and a stiff neck are worth it for a kiss with a Hemsworth, right?
Problem #5 for little girls: You have to carry props to do your job
As a successful actress, director and producer Eva Longoria49, is a powerful woman in Hollywood. But there’s one point where she struggles to be the equal of her male colleagues – they all tower over her 5’2″ frame! But little girls learn quickly to be resourceful: Longoria has found a way to achieve equality on set… using apple crates as makeshift steps! Brilliant.
Problem No. 6 for little girls: You feel like you have to wear high heels
One of the best developments in women’s fashion in recent years is that it’s now acceptable to wear sneakers almost all the time. Gone are the days when every star strutted around in ankle-breaking stilettos. These days, it’s all about comfort… unless, of course, you’re petite.
ArianaGrande is about 5’2″ tall and says she likes to wear insanely high platform shoes to feel comfortable on stage – but it’s not without its challenges. “Dancing in high heels is pretty hard,” she said shine. “I learn the dances without heels and then we add them. We just practice and I get used to it. My feet really hurt at the end of the shows, but it’s fun. While it’s happening, it’s fun. I feel great!”
Grande (in name, but not by nature!) brings up a good point: when you’re short, it’s much better to actually be a pop star than just a music fan—being petite has its advantages, but getting seen at concerts isn’t one of them (although asking a 6′ guy if you can climb on his shoulders can be a great icebreaker!).
