Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Heather Knight says England unimpressed by move

England’s preparations for the T20 World Cup will not be affected by the short-notice move from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates, says captain Heather Knight.

Due to civil unrest in Bangladesh, the International Cricket Council was forced to postpone the tournament just six weeks before the first match on October 3.

“The conditions will be a little different, but not huge,” said Knight, 33.

“We have had Bangladesh in our minds for a long time, probably for a few years now, in terms of preparing the players and building the squad.

“But I don’t think it changes much. As players, it gives us a little more time outside the hotel room, which is always a good thing.”

Knight added that it was a “pity” that Bangladesh’s women’s team did not have a home World Cup, but that moving the tournament was “the right decision”.

One of the more obvious differences between Sharjah and Dubai will be the smaller crowds, something Knight says she will talk to the players about.

“At the 2014 World Cup in Bangladesh we had a really good crowd, especially in Sylhet, and there was a really good atmosphere,” said Knight.

“We’ll talk about it, but it’s a World Cup and it shouldn’t take much effort to get up for it.”

England begin their campaign against Bangladesh in Sharjah on October 5 before facing 2023 finalists South Africa, Scotland and the West Indies in the first group stage ahead of the semi-finals.
