Streaming is becoming much more expensive.

Somehow, streaming services that were once considered a cost-effective way to watch TV have become so expensive in recent years that having a handful of services that let you watch your favorite shows can compete with your cable bill. And all of those price increases may have gone unnoticed, climbing up by a dollar or two. Disney+ and Hulu prices will increase in October. Paramount+ will become more expensive on August 20. Peacock also raised its prices in August.

It may surprise you, but here are the current and upcoming pricing and plans for the eight major entertainment TV streamers (not including bundles), plus Venu, the brand new sports-only service from Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox.

Discovery recently moved its best-known Max originals to HBO, including the upcoming Batman villain series “The Penguin,” but they will still be available on Max. Some sports shows are available with an add-on subscription to Bleacher Report.

How much does Peacock cost?

◾ Premium (with ads): $7.99/month or $79.99/year.

◾ Premium Plus (no ads): $13.99/month or $139.99/year.

What you get: “The Office” is only available on Peacock, along with next day streams of NBC and Bravo content like “Saturday Night Live” and originals like “The Traitors” and “Poker Face.” It’s also the only streaming home for the Olympics, as well as other NBC sports like “Sunday Night Football.” You can also live stream your local NBC affiliate.

How much does Paramount+ cost?

◾ Paramount+ with SHOWTIME (no ads): $12.99/month or $119.99/year.

If you opt for Showtime’s ad-free offering, you’ll also get that premium channel’s content, including the Emmy-nominated “Yellowjackets” and the “Dexter” reboot.

How much does Apple TV+ cost?

◾ No ads: $9.99/month.

What you get: Apple original series and movies like “Ted Lasso” and “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Apple has also had great success in the world of sports, with exclusive rights to “Friday Night Baseball” and Major League Soccer games. What makes Apple particularly not has a large library of old shows and movies: it contains only originals produced since the service was launched in 2019.

How much does Venu cost?

◾ With ads: $42.99/month.

What you get: The new sports-only streamer will offer consumers who have canceled their cable a way to watch many (but not all) live sports. The project hails from Warner Bros. Discovery, Disney and Fox and is set to launch in time for college football season. It will include professional baseball, basketball, football, hockey and soccer leagues. College sports include NCAA football, men’s and women’s NCAA basketball, motorsports including NASCAR and Formula 1 events, Grand Slam tennis, golf, boxing and MMA. However, because Comcast and Paramount are not involved, sports broadcast on NBC or CBS, such as the Olympics and NFL games including “Sunday Night Football,” are not included. However, internet TV provider Fubo is suing Venus’ owners over alleged antitrust violations, and a planned Aug. 23 launch date is in jeopardy if a judge issues a temporary restraining order.

You can easily compare prices in the table below.

How much does it all cost? If you take out monthly subscriptions to separate ad-supported plans for all eight streamers, it will cost you $77.92 once the announced price increases go into effect (excluding Venu). To get them ad-free, you’ll pay $122.41. Adding Venu, that’s $120.91 for the plans with ads and $165.40 for the plans without ads.

Is the price worth it? That depends on your individual tastes and priorities. Few consumers will choose all eight major services, but if you want to watch all of the shows nominated for Best Drama and Best Comedy at this year’s Emmy Awards, you’ll need to subscribe to five of them.

It’s a reminder to keep an eye on your credit card statements and be selective about which services you really use. Maybe you bought Peacock for the Olympics but never watched a single show or movie. You probably could have canceled after the closing ceremony.

And with all these price increases and packages, the old cable world doesn’t look so bad anymore.
