Fall River area restaurants where you can try last-minute summer dishes

Kids are going back to school and pumpkin spice is hitting the shelves, which means many of us have brains switched into fall mode.

But summer is not over yet and there is still time to make the most of it.

For foodies, this means heading to their favorite seasonal spots to enjoy summer foods, treats and outdoor dining before the sun goes down.

If you haven’t done all your restaurant dining in warm weather yet, be sure to mark your calendars this weekend.

Here’s a look at some places in the greater Fall River area where you can enjoy your final end-of-summer feasts:

Summer may be coming to an end, but it’s still hot on Fall River’s waterfront.

Create unforgettable moments on Pier 52’s waterfront lawn this Labor Day weekend with delicious cuisine and a music program full of live acoustic sets, DJs and good vibes.

While you’re there, be sure to try Pier 52’s new specialties, including the chili lime garlic shrimp served with cilantro lime jasmine rice, bok choy, roasted salsa and a jalapeño confit aioli. Or start with the newest appetizer – crispy potato cakes, smoked fish patty, roasted cucumber and salmon roe.

Pier 52 is also offering a back-to-school special to help you get back to school. For a limited time, you can get a free dessert with any purchase by showing your valid student ID and proof of acceptance to a college or trade school. The offer is valid through Labor Day weekend.

Pier 52 at 52 Ferry Street will officially close for the season on October 14.

Pub food, live music and a tropical atmosphere await you at Tipsy Seagull, a Key West-inspired floating restaurant and outdoor bar in Borden Light Marina.

They close for the season this fall, but until then, long live summer at 1 Ferry St.

On Saturday, August 31, it’s “Back to the 80’s” at one of the last summer events of the season on the Docks. Enjoy live music from the Fast Times Cover Band at this 80’s-themed costume party and win the prize (tickets to the upcoming Jelly Roll concert at TD Garden) for the best costume.

Check out their website for their live entertainment program which runs until October 11th. Come along and enjoy some end of summer fun, drinks and food overlooking Mount Hope Bay.

Enjoy al fresco dining in a tiki-inspired beach atmosphere—minus the beach—with a stop at Macray’s Seafood. There you’ll find all your seaside summer classics—lobster rolls, chowder, shrimp scampi, clam cakes—and more.

Recent specialties have included steamed lobster, oven-stuffed lobster, crab cakes Benedict, a plate of grilled pulled pork, steamed lobster and a filet mignon and lobster combination.

And of course, no end-of-summer celebration is complete without a lemonade from Del’s or try the drinks of the day.

Macray’s Seafood is located at 115 Stafford Road.

If a stop at Evelyn’s Drive-In wasn’t part of your summer culinary tour, now is the time.

The local gem in the heart of Tiverton is a one-stop shop for all your favorite seafood dishes – from clam cakes to chowder and stuffies to fish and chips. Or try the lobster chow mein (a selection from Diners Drive-ins and Dives), lobster BLT, fish or shrimp tacos, or try the 2lb seafood plate.

Their season end is approaching but has not been announced yet, so don’t miss your chance.

The Bayside Restaurant celebrated its 50th anniversary this year and it’s no wonder it has been a crowd favorite for so long.

Among the highlights that keep people coming back from near and far is the long list of their “famous” offerings, including cornbread, maple seafood medley, baked cod and lobster rolls.

Other delicious dishes on the menu include Poor Man’s Surf N Turf (lobster burger), chicken and waffles, fish and chips, seafood chowder, homemade cod cakes, Rhode Island calamari and Portuguese linguica and jack cheese quesadilla.

With an outdoor fire pit to keep you cozy, you can enjoy the salty, cool breeze well into fall. Last year, Bayside stayed open until November 12, but no closing date has been announced for 2024.

Bayside Restaurant is located at 1253 Horseneck Road.

Grab a drink on the dock or dine on the deck and enjoy the sunset on the Westport River at Back Eddy’s outdoor bar and patio area.

Recent specialties have included North Atlantic salmon, baby kale Caesar salad, and slow-braised pork and fried shrimp.

And as long as the weather is still on our side, Back Eddy can be perfectly combined with a trip to the nearby beaches.

The ice season is coming to an end

As the days change from hot and humid to brisk and cool, the clock is ticking at some popular local ice cream shops.

Enjoy summer with a trip to seasonal attractions like Seagull Scoops in Fall River, Somerset Creamery and Simcock Farm in Swansea, which are only open until early fall.

And don’t wait for the Sundae Funday specials at Eskimo King in Swansea, which closes for the season on Monday October 14. A recent delicious offering to coincide with the Portuguese festive season was the ‘Mais Fica’, a malassada topped with vanilla soft serve, caramel, a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar, whipped cream and a cherry.

Ice Cream Barn in Swansea and Gray’s Ice Cream in Tiverton are great places to visit all year round, but are best enjoyed on a warm day.
