Comments requested on Avista’s cost adjustment request

Public comments are requested on Avista Utilities’ request to adjust electricity rates for its electric service.

Avista is proposing a tariff adjustment of 0.205 cents per kilowatt hour. If approved, customers would be reimbursed around $6.6 million starting October 1.

Avista officials said the discount was due to lower-than-expected electricity costs resulting from lower wholesale electricity and natural gas prices.

Electricity cost adjustments track changes in revenues and costs associated with fluctuations in hydroelectric generation, secondary prices, fuel costs, and changes in revenues and expenses from electricity contracts.

If the Idaho Public Utilities Commission approves the request, customers would be reimbursed about $6.6 million effective Oct. 1. Avista officials said the refund is the result of lower electricity costs than reflected in retail prices because wholesale prices for electricity and natural gas are lower.

The Commission will accept written comments through September 11. Comments may be submitted through the Commission’s website at puc.idaho.gov or by email. If computer access is not available, comments may be sent to the Commission and Avista at the addresses listed below.
