What is The Rings of Power: Season 2 about?

The Rings of Power: Season 2 continues to explore the Second Age of Middle-earth (thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings). Here is the official synopsis for Season 2 from Amazon:

In Season 2 of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel and without an army or allies, the aspiring Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power that will allow him to bend all the peoples of Middle-earth to his dark will. Building on the epic scope and ambition of the first season, the new season plunges even the most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world increasingly on the brink of disaster. Elves and Dwarves, Orcs and Men, Wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are tested and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of goodwill fight ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters most to them… each other.
