League Two side Barrow have secured a dream away tie at Chelsea in the third round of the 2024/25 Carabao Cup, while Arsenal host third division side Bolton.

Stephen Clemence’s side will travel to Stamford Bridge next month having beaten Championship opponents 3-2 on penalties at home to Derby on Tuesday night, following a goalless draw to reach this stage of the competition for the first time since 1968. They also narrowly beat Port Vale in the first round.

The only other meeting between the two clubs took place in 1948, when Chelsea won 5-0 in the third round of the FA Cup.

AFC Wimbledon will be rewarded for their surprise penalty shoot-out victory over Premier League newcomers Ipswich on Wednesday evening with a visit from Newcastle, who also beat Nottingham Forest on penalties at the City Ground.

West Ham travel to defending champions Liverpool for a high-profile match, one of three all-Premier League games in round three. Everton face Southampton and Brighton host Wolves. There are also two exciting London derbies: Brentford vs Leyton Orient and QPR vs Crystal Palace. The final game sees the return of England midfielder Eberechi Eze to Loftus Road.

Manchester United play at home to League One side Barnsley in the third round, Manchester City host Tom Cleverley’s Watford at the Etihad Stadium in a repeat of the 2019 FA Cup final and Wycombe play at home to Champions League qualifiers Aston Villa after their upset away win at Swansea.

Tottenham host Coventry in a game that will bring back memories of the epic 1987 FA Cup final at the old Wembley, which the Sky Blues won 3-2 after extra time.

After a comfortable win in the second round in Birmingham, Fulham travel to Championship team Preston, while between League One and Premier League it is again Walsall hosting Leicester.

Charlie Adam returns to Stoke as manager of League Two side Fleetwood, while Sheffield Wednesday travel to face Blackpool.

The third round matches will be played in the weeks starting 16 and 23 September.
