There’s only one thing that can ruin outdoor fun in Illinois faster than a sudden downpour: hornets. However, we’ve just found a natural and foolproof way to get rid of them that you should try right away.

Hornet problems in Illinois

Hornets. I absolutely hate those pesky, stinging pests. Whether I’m in or around our pool or trying to play basketball with my kids, hornets have ruined our family fun more times this summer than I can count, and I’m sick of them!

If there’s one thing I hate more than hornets, it’s the sprays we constantly buy to get rid of them. I hate spending money on the spray… I hate having to spray it… and I hate the horrible chemical smell of it.

It goes without saying that I would love to find a natural and effective way to get rid of these flying devils and today I noticed a brilliant idea in my Facebook feed…

Getting a hornet-free garden without bug spray can’t be as easy as an old butter churn full of apple cider vinegar, sugar, water and dishwashing liquid, can it?!?

Reading through the comments on the post, I quickly realized: Yes, it can be that easy, BUT there is something important you should know before mixing the solution and applying it to your garden;

The solution will attract and kill more than just hornets.

One commenter said:

It also kills honey bees and other flying insects, including dragonflies and butterflies. I did it and found 3 dragonflies and 2 butterflies in it and about 10 honey bees.

Now my illusion of not having any more hornets has been shattered a bit… but maybe I’ll try anyway.
