Borussia Mönchengladbach has announced that they have mutually agreed to terminate the contract with midfielder Christoph Kramer.

On his departure from the club after 11 years, Kramer said:

“I have been going to BORUSSIA-PARK with a smile for ten years and have never made a secret of what this club, its fans and its employees mean to me,” says Kramer. “The journey with Borussia was incredible and unique. Unfortunately, it is now coming to an end, but I am also looking forward to what lies ahead.”

The announcement was also followed by a video on Twitter:

The 33-year-old has spent 11 years at Gladbach, making 288 appearances for the club over two separate spells. Under Gerardo Seoane, Kramer has played a supporting role in the team but will not get the send-off he deserves, as his long-time teammates Patrick Herrmann and Tony Jantschke likely did at the end of last season.

During his time at Gladbach, Kramer was called up to the German national team for the 2014 World Cup, where he made his second appearance of the tournament in the final against Argentina. However, he was sent off in the first half due to concussion following a collision and asked the referee if this was the real final.

It is unknown whether Kramer will continue his football career. Off the pitch, the midfielder has already made a name for himself, working alongside Per Mertesacker as a pundit for ZDF.
