Barrow travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup

Second division club Barrow secured a top match at Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

The Bluebirds reached the third round for the first time in 56 years on Tuesday when they beat Championship side Derby on penalties.

And they were rewarded with a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Enzo Maresca’s Blues.

In order to avoid scheduling conflicts with the expanded Champions League and Europa League, a preliminary round draw had shown that the first four teams in these competitions would play home games and the last two away games.

Five of these teams had opponents from the EFL.

Manchester City, who have won the competition four times under manager Pep Guardiola, have been drawn at home to Tom Cleverley’s Watford, who beat Plymouth 2-0 on Tuesday, while Arsenal host Bolton, who won at Shrewsbury.

Manchester United also have a home game, facing League One side Barnsley, who beat Sheffield United 1-0 on Tuesday.

Wycombe’s reward for their 1-0 win at Swansea on Wednesday is a home game against Aston Villa, while Coventry host Tottenham.

Carabao Cup winners Liverpool, the last European team standing, will begin their defence of the trophy in an all-Premier League match at home to West Ham.

Newcastle, who beat Nottingham Forest on penalties on Wednesday, travel to the capital to face another League Two side, AFC Wimbledon.

In two Premier League matches, Everton host Southampton, who won a dramatic 5-3 victory in Cardiff, while Brighton host Wolves.

Premier League side Leyton Orient travel to the capital to face Premier League side Brentford, while QPR host Crystal Palace in another London derby.

In League Two, Walsall host Leicester and Fulham travel to Preston, Blackpool face Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke are at home to Fleetwood.

All games will take place in the weeks starting September 16th and 23rd.
