Boil water order remains in effect

Several schools in Dallas County will resume classes on Thursday after water supply problems in the area were resolved.

Classes at Bruce K. Craig, Southside Primary, Tipton Middle School and the Alternative Learning Center will resume on Thursday after water supplies to the schools are restored.

Dallas County Superintendent Anthony Sampson said they were forced to close the school early on Tuesday and keep it closed on Wednesday as the Dallas County Water & Sewer Authority works to fix the problem in the area.

On Tuesday afternoon, the agency issued a boil water order until further notice, urging customers who were experiencing low water pressure or had their service cut off to do so.

“The Dallas County Water & Sewer Authority is currently experiencing low water pressure and water outages due to water loss. If you are experiencing low water pressure, you are advised to boil your water before using it. We ask for your patience during this process,” the statement said.

Sampson said the water problem occurred in the schools on Tuesday afternoon and a decision was made to let students out of class early that day.

“We were able to get through lunch before the water problem occurred,” Sampson said. “When we ran out of water in the schools, we had to close the school early. We had not received any notification that the problem had been fixed in time for school to start on Wednesday, so we decided to close.”

Sampson said he received notification that the problem had been resolved and classes could resume as usual on Thursday.

“We are excited to welcome students back and resume classes,” Sampson said.
